Whilst on holiday i jumped off a jetty about 10 feet into the sea to go for a swim. Whilst i have done this a loads of times in the past this time i felt the clasp on my Watch was completely undone when i went to swim, i assume it came undone as i hit the water!

So there i am underwater trying to stop my watch slipping over my hand and get it done back up!

It’s a Breitling Super Avenger with the bracelet and the fold over clasp

Has anyone else had this happen? Is my clasp getting loose or faulty Or was it a fluke?

Wouldn't expect the clasp to open during that sort of use, especilly if the safety clasp is closing properly. Does it "feel" looser than it used to when you close it? There shoud be a definite "click" closed rather than sort of "squishing" into place.

If it is getting loose then adjustment is usually straightforward enough (it's just a case of gentle bending) but a little hard to describe on a forum - and if you bend the wrong bit you can quite easily make it unuseable.

If you decide to try it yourself then look very closely at how it closes and what grips where before you start altering things. On that type of clasp it's usually a cas of straightening the centre bar (the one that says Breitling on it) very slightly, or curving the two outer bars a little more, to move the ends where it grips closer together. For the safety clasp it's a simple matter of bending the sides in slightly to give a more secure grip.

Any half decent watch shop should be able to sort it for you a lot cheaper than a new clasp if you're reluctant to start bending stuff yourself.

The clasp on my SuperAvenger is super-tight, as mentioned above it might just need a slight adjustment.

Last month I had a new clasp put on my titanium Citizen watch - cost me £35 and was identical to the original ( sourced from Citizen). That surprised me as it is 20 years old and I thought the watch repairer might just have fitted any suitable clasp to the bracelet. I'm very pleased with the work they did smile
Previously I'd had the clasp adjusted, which cost £10, but it was only when I mistakenly thought I could fix it myself that the very thin metal catch broke biggrin
