Yes, early 1990's.
Can't be many left now, the movement wasn't accessible for service.
Here ya go, one of each.

iirc it wasn't so much that the movement wasn't accessible, it was that you couldn't get access to the hands, so couldn't refit them after service without breaking and replacing the glass - with a real risk of damaging the case / dial (especially the rock ones) if you tried.

Although given the low-grade quartz movement buried inside the wooden case (as shown in the capture from their 'change the battery' video below) access to the hands is probably a mute point. There's not a lot in there to service.

Don't knock the humble 2035!

3 year battery life, good torque so will drive large hands, available in lots of versions - including reverse, all metal where it matters, and perfectly capable of being serviced.

It started life (with a couple of jewels) as a mid-range movement in Citizens and has just kept going for the past 30 years or so. It's now so damn cheap because of the number they've made (well over a billion by now) that there's no point in stripping one.

Probably he ultimate in utility movement design.

Well, they are a young company, just putting down roots, so it does leaf room for improvement over time.

I'll bow to your superior knowledge (again) Variomatic. All I could remember was that they were a throw away item.

Yep, and not a cheap one at that. Another classic case of form over function from the company that inflicted the Astrolon on us!

What's sap with a wooden watch? Just teak a look at one and yew might like it. Log into the internet and yew will see they are not a trunk of money like some watches these days. I'm rooting for it.

The Nixon Rotolog is not a bad looking watch. I thought about getting one a few years ago, but decided against it.
