Have any V12V owners needed to have brake pads replaced yet? If so what mileage did you get out of them?

I ask because mine has done 12,000 miles and the front ones are looking low (of course I can only see the outer pads) - rears look fine. As I'm heading to Spa later this year with AM I've asked the dealer to change the front pads as a precaution (even though the warning light is not on yet). Two dealers have both responded that they think it unlikely the car will need new pads at such low mileage and given that it's circa £1k for pads fitting I appreciate they are trying to save me some money, however I don't want to cut my Spa day short by finding the pads wear through on the day.

Any thoughts?

I was told by someone within AML Gaydon that you're supposed to get 25,000 miles out of pads if driven fast but not on track. And that the discs should last for 100,000 miles.

If spending £1000 is no big deal then yes, why not replace front pads and keep the old ones. Then swap back after the track day and wear out the old ones?

Why not buy a set on SOR? Take them with you and if you need to, replace them. It's a. 30 min job to do both sides.

you need a jack, wheel brace, Allen key to undo the radial calliper bolts and a drift to punch out the pad retaining pins.

FYI new pads have 10mm of friction material, wear indicators are set at 2-3mm

OP - are you doing the wheel and tyre hire package with AM?. All customer cars are given the once over so they will advise you on the day at Spa and if you have some pads with you then they will usually fit them whilst the wheels are off.

Er 12,000 miles is not bad.

A trackday WILL take life out of the pads and that is dependant on how hard you use them obviously. I turned up at SPA (I don't mention it ever) with no light on, but the engineers said that my car would not make it to lunchtime, so they changed them. Simon has again helped with the amount of pad material from new, but mine removed 2mm from memory on 1 trackday.

Negotiate a 10% discount, put them in the boot as Simon has recommended and go enjoy yourself. My first set of fronts lasted 11K, my second set 5K........ Others had over 18K on there brakes with only half wear, so it totally depends on the driver and how hard you use them on a trackday.

If I were to do trackdays in a V12V again, I would not try so hard and preserve the brakes better. They are excellent by the way, just expensive to keep replacing.

Yes - I've got the wheel & tyre hire. I'll see what the dealer says when it goes in. They alsos said there are two sorts of pads - bedded-in and non bedded in. Anyone had experience as to which one to choose?
