Budget mountain bike

I was looking at getting a bit of a budget mountain bike to use as some roads I cycle on when going to football training seem to be picking up endless flat tyres.

Im not looking to do any downhill tracks but hitting a lot of country roads with hills with poor surfaces.

Anyway i've shortlisted a couple of Halfords bikes as they have a shop locally or are there better bikes out there for the money?

Last one is the better of the bunch, but you pays yer money and I am sure that after a few trips,you may get disappointed with the bikes and wished you spent a bit more.

Just to clarify, do you currently have a bike and the issue is getting too many flat tyres? If so buying a budget MTB won't solve your problem but buying some better tyres might (and even slightly expensive tyres will be cheaper than a new bike)!

If you don't have a bike you might be better off looking at a hybrid rather than an MTB for the sort of riding you describe. As the above post says. Better tyres will stop the punctures. I was getting punctures every couple of weeks before I put scwelbe big apple street tyres on my bike. Only two punctures in 12000+ miles and both from thumb tacks, even though I'm riding over broken glass and other road crap everyday.
