Hello All, I'm after some opinions and advice on a first world problem.

i currently have a Tag Heuer F1 ( http://www.tagheuer.co.uk/int-en/luxury-watches/fo... ) watch which i bought myself as a present for getting through uni some years ago, it has been totally reliable and been everything id wanted in a watch, however i did say to myself when i turned 30 id replace it with something else.

Well i turned 30 a few months back cue much perusing of the market, I've zeroed in on three watches i like, the two in the subject and D Dornbluth & sohn Caliber 99.0, the Dornbluth I'm going to buy at a later date as its just too pretty to not purchase, but its probably not the watch i want right now if that makes sense, it will be the next milestone to aim at.

This bring me onto the Chopard Mille Miglia with the stainless strap or the Brietling Superocean with the heritage strap (the exact models I've linked below) what are your opinions on them and do you feel one is standout? i cant make my mind up, the Brietling is more blingy and probably a bit more golf club and the chopard seems more understated and 'pretty'

Brietling SO would be my choice. Bear in mind though, that if retained value is a consideration, anything bought at a discount will likely have a poor resale .
Both stunning watches but the SO has a clarity to the dial that I like, unusual for a Brietling !

A very nice super ocean indeed.

I picked up a couple of Mille Miglias at auction recently for <£900 each, absolute bargain.

Get the Dornbluth ordered now IMO. Stunning watches.

Out of the two you've list superocean would be my choice.

Superocean for me as well, although I prefer the non Chronograph types.

Personally, I'd go for this over either of your other options, if restricted to Chopard/Breitling. However, plenty of choice at that money, especially used.

+1 for the Dornbluth ( I just ordered one for myself....only another year before I can hoon over to Germany to pick it up!)

As it happens I am currently sporting the Superocean Heritage on my wrist. Blue face, mesh strap and NOT the chronograph stylie shown in the OP's link. For me chrono watches are too fussy and frankly, what is it that most people sitting on a train/bus/plane/car to their office could possibly want with the stuff that chrono's give you?!

Try this one, if you choose to opt for the Breitling....

Classic looks and beautiful on the wrist.

Have you actually tried them on?

I wanted a SOH so badly, went to a dealer, put it on, and it was the single most underwhelming watch I have ever worn. Sorry, my opinion only, but it just didnt pop at all. Looks great on the page, not so much (or at all) on the wrist.

I have been lucky to own 2 chopards, both biffering versions of the MM GTXL (not at the same time btw), and they are just stunning pieces, both in the box and on the wrist.

You wont be disappointed fella. If they have one, try the blue face as well. Classy! (All IMHO of course!)

For Chopard you can try Berry's in Nottingham or Lumbers in Leicester.

I found Lumbers very helpful they got hold of a promo GPMH for me to try which isn't out until September.

I also tried a Transocean while I was there but I didn't like the style of strap, plus the white face version they had looked too old man for me.

I have a B/S/Ocean 46 all Blue non chrono and it really stands out.

People ask me what it is regularly and say how nice it is.

But it is a bit dressy for Tee shirt and jeans, it really looks good under a nice
white shirt and cuffs.

So I don't wear it as much as my Planet Ocean for every day use which just look right whatever I'm wearing.

Just a thought.

Hi OP! - I was faced with the same decision 8 months ago! Went for the Chopard MM. All went well and I loved the watch, until just after one month of wearing it, it stopped, never to start again. After a lot or arguing with the dealer they wouldn't give me a refund and sent it back to Chopard for 'Inspection' even though it was immaculate. A month later after me stating I didn't want a repaired watch I was given my money back, not without threatening legal action etc and having a massive row in their London Shop.

Thinking this was a one off, I went and purchased a new Chopard MM from another dealer, the other having pissed me off so much I wouldn't spend another penny there again. This watch was the same model and never had a problem... until last week! This one lasted 7 months, and just stopped like the other one, no reason - not damaged, I even take it off to mow the lawn etc.

After taking it back to the dealer, I noticed they no longer sell Chopard and they kindly agreed to exchange for another model. Needless to say my own opinion is that Chopard are the Maserati of the watch world, look amazing, but you know its going to let you down!

As of yesterday I own a Super Ocean and am gutted about the MM! - Good luck and if you get a MM, make sure you keep the receipt, also grill the dealer about the returns policy, after all its a lot of money.

!!!!!!!!

Wow, that's rough luck.

Both of mine were daily beaters, and worked perfectly the whole time.

Luck of the draw I guess, feel for you.

Funny as my intention was to buy something that I liked and could pass on to my son. Ive had shoes that last longer!!!

Are Chopard known for reliability issues?? or was it literally not meant to be? Ive noticed a few dealers have stopped selling them.
