Anyone know what the procedure is in getting cruise control on a 2004 DB9 and the costs involved?

Buy and fit a CC equiped steering wheel and have the car flashed by a main dealer via AMDS.

Is it literally a case of swapping over the steering wheel and that's it?

Surely there is extra wiring ?

no extra wiring needed, swap the steering wheel and have the engine ECU's CC enabled via AMDS,as simple as that!!!

My friend used to have a DB9 and bought the switch but ended up selling his DB9. I can probably steal the switch off him but I am pretty sure it's not gonna be plug and play.

Found a wiring diagram though...looks like you just wire it into the coupler confused

In my quest to get further with this I stole the button and took the steering wheel off, but it wasn't as crystal clear as I was hoping.

I got the connector sorted for the button side and that's all fine but where the actual wiring goes into the coupler is in the question mark now. I am assuming this is how it goes.

Overview.

Take a look here

KarlFranz provides some relevant posts showing the wiring

Indeed, seen that and shot him a PM hoping he had snapped a picture of the back of this rotary board. Really I just need a confirmation for my assumption!

I have cruise but no audio controls. I wonder if I have the wiring for audio and if that is just a question of getting the audio switch? I know it has the phone control on it and I have a simm card slot not bluetooth. Would that just work?

Anyone know?

Well Aston sell the buttons on their own and it's just a case of sending the 3 odd wires into the coupler at the top.

Slacker if you're handy do you think you'd be able to get a picture of your rotary board? Its just 2 torx screws on the back of the steering wheel, pull airbag off. Then the board is just pushed in at the top and pulls out of you squeeze the tabs on the either side.

Just need this shot of the back like this

Early cars even with the audio controls only worked the phone. There was a post where someone found out how to get the audio controls to work on the radio / CD. Can't remember whom though.

From what I can see pre 08 cars have no audio controls, only bluetooth.

The audio controls work the volume on the bluetooth for phone connectivity.

Before asking anyone to do this request you should probably warn them that, if at any time they power their ignition (so it does the "System Check") while the airbag is disconnected, they will get a system fault. When that happens, they will get a warning message each and every time they start the car and will have a warning symbol on their dash at all times. Plugging the airbag back in and no amount of ignition cycles will clear this fault code. The only way to remove it once it's there is to use the AMDS (at your dealer) or a scanner that can troubleshoot and clear SRS codes.

and for the record, sorry I don't have a picture of the rotary coupler board as you requested. There are multiple styles of this board depending on the car's switch configuration. Vanquish style switches have a different pin assignment as well. However, you don't need a picture to figure out how to wire it correctly if you know what you're doing and can read the circuit diagrams. If you don't, then you're your probably better off not attempting this task as you can easily cause some real damage and even melted wiring. Also keep in mind that, even if you get the wiring correct, you will still need to take it to your dealer as you need to use AMDS to enable the cruise control functionality. Having the switches alone is not enough.

Cheers.

You don't need to disconnect the airbag. You pull the airbag out and then you can access that coupler quite easily.

Going off how wrong the workshop manual is I've learnt not to trust anything Aston Martin write down, I'd rather get an actual confirmation before proceeding!

The 911 was much easier than this though and for a £90 job vs a £650 job it's worth chasing.

For the record I asked you've had the wheel before and SLacker is extremely handy with tools and as the manual to hand.

I was just trying to give fair warning since your request asked to "pull the airbag off" which doesn't explicitly caution not to disconnect it. Considering the airbag wires are pretty short, I would suspect most people would try to disconnect it in order to access the steering wheel wiring.

I haven't found any errors in the wiring diagrams (or workshop manuals)--assuming that you are using the correct version for your specific model year. Can you cite any specific examples of these numerous errors that cause you to mistrust them? I have found them to be a pretty good source of information thus far. Are you using the manuals meant for a 2004MY? Those are very early DB9s and I suspect things may have changed from that year--especially if you didn't get your manuals directly from astonmartintechinfo.com and got one of the manuals some people have been circulating around on this forum instead.
