I already have a Santander current account and will be getting a decent amount from my house are there any "easy" and "safe" options as I intend to invest some into various things but wouldn't mind if I could get 2/3% interest on the balance for a bit.

I haven't got anything in cash/share ISAs atm.

I got an email from a Nigerian army general the other day who had what sounded like a bombproof investment opportunity. Do you want me to forward you his email address?

Cash returns are pathetic these days. Best bet IMO for the short term will be to open the highest rate internet accounts you can find. Building societies or even Tesco/Sainsburys. The rates are pretty poor at about 1.3% but it's better than getting raped at the 0.1% banks are paying to "savers".

Stick the max (£40k now?) into Premium Bonds, the return is not great but you never know! Plus it's safe, returns are tax free and you can get at your money quickly.

What are you doing with the £100k 6 months down the line that can't be done now?

Waiting for a few things at work to resolve and I want to see where the housing market is going. Iv made good returns in recent years but have my reservations regarding the current London prices...

If I can't decide I might just stick it in a combo of Savings, Shares, Property (BTL or buy/improve/sell), etc.

Was hoping someone might know of a 2/2.5% yield rather than opting for 0.1% from banks.

Just looking for suggestions really smile

Just stick it in BTLs in London, there's no way you're going to lose money unless you invest for a really short time horizon.

Every year people will tell you there's a slowdown coming but it's just not going to happen with the increasing demand and limited supply in London. Also mortgage rates are still pretty low so I wouldn't waste any time.

That's better than the 0.5% I'm getting with ING (but soon to be Barclays).

I'm also looking for the highest interest savers account I can find. Will be following this thread closely.

Agree - buy somewhere with decent transport links and not too stabby and you'll be fine in London.

I'd steer clear of anywhere too 'up and coming' though - I resigned myself to being far too risk averse to be one of the folks who make a million from a 3 bed terraced house after spending 10 years nervously walking from the station after dark.

That's what tenants are for biggrin

Watching this thread with interest though for ideas other than property.

Sorry to hijack the thread but a lot of you have mentioned Premium Bonds which I am also looking into. It seems you can do them online now too, but does anyone use a tried and tested company/site for this already?

As I don't want to dump a load of money into a scam one.
