So after 6 years in a Lotus Esprit S1 i think it maybe time to return to the TVR fold. Going to look at a 1984 280 fhc tomorrow. Last owner for 19 years and has a 3.2L massaged engine. If it's any good and the price is right I might just pull the trigger.

Love it but ownership is very involved, mainly from a maintenance perspective. The S1 is all about the looks and purity of the design. Engineering in the car has it's shortcomings. Sounds just like a TVR right ? But the biggest difference is the mid engine layout. This makes everything a touch more tricky to deal with. Heat build up and space to work in being the most prominent. To drive the car is brilliant. Not fast but extremely engaging with the steering and handling being totally balanced and informative. In 6 years it never let me down.
I'm really only selling it because someone said how much and they agreed to my price.
Lotus tried to be sophisticated with the Esprit S1 but although the principle is there the application is somwhat lacking. Later models were better. Too me a TVR was more of an enthuisiates car. Not complicated in it's application and bundles of fun. Also always thought TVR interiors were much better than the Lotus ones.
I had a 280i before the Esprit but it was a crap one and I dumped it quick for the Lotus. Really was always a TVR fan more than a Lotus one when I was growing up in the 80s. So after enjoying the Esprit I figured I give the wedge another go. Would love a 400 or 450 but no such luck getting one here in the States, so the slightly handicapped brother will have to do.

Stumbled across your plight Gavin. As a fellow Brit in the US, I avoided the silly priced used car market and have now dragged 3 TVR's across the pond.
