My 127 sport had it, and my Clio 182, now my MX5 has it.....

I don't know what "it" is really.... My old Fiat 127 sport had it though, but the standard 127 I had before, didn't...
I went for years with a succession of cars but never experienced the feeling of the 127 sport until I had a Westfield SEI with a 155 BHP crossflow in, that had it, but the Caterham HPC (225 BHP Swindon engine) I had after it didn't.
My Clio Trophy definitely had it... the Elise 111R I had before it didn't...
The best car I have ever owned, an E38 7 series BMW didn't have it... it had a great sense of occasion when I drove it, same with the SLK55 AMG we have now... but neither cars have "it"
The MK1 MX5 I have at the moment also definitely has "it" but again I am not sure what "it" is, and I have always found it difficult to know what "it" is from a test drive.... it sort of develops over months of ownership...
I cant even tell you what "it" is... its definitely not about power... or handling, struggling to define it!
the question is... If I swop the MK1 MX5 for a MK3 with the 2 ltr engine, will it have "It"

well the Fiat definitely had that! all the others were OK though! even the MX5 is not too bad!buzzer said:

I'm going to take a punt on this one and say No. I think the Mk3, though really competent has grown up and its plushness has blunted the raw charm of the original. Just a guess of course.

I'd agree with that. Hated the mk3 when I retest drove one, but the mk3.5 felt just like my mk1. I think the difference was suspension geometry, so maybe possible to get a mk3 to feel the same. I think the mk3.5 is a seriously underrated car though.
It took a while to realise my Morris Minor 948cc had it, but it became apparent there were buckets of it once driving it became 2nd nature.
My Alfasud ti had tons of it, I even used to take it around the lanes at work lunch break to get my fix.
My 2CV6 had it and so does my Chimaera in spades. It is a very rare commodity in cars nowadays though.
