THE assistant editor of a magazine for high-performance motorcycle enthusiasts was killed when his bike was in collision with a car on the A1 yesterday.
Jamie Bartle was riding a black Aprilia RSV Mille motorcycle to work in Peterborough, where he held the post of assistant editor of the EMAP magazine Performance Bikes.

But as the 1000cc bike travelled down the southbound carriageway of the road at 8.45am it was in collision with a car near to the A6121 Ketton junction.

The carriageway was closed for nearly five hours while police officers dealt with the incident and diversions were in place as seven-mile tailbacks built up.

A spokesman for Leicestershire police said the family of Mr Bartle had been informed about his death, but his name would not be officially released until later today when his body had been formally identified.

Mike Armitage, road test editor of Performance Bikes, said staff at the magazine were devastated by news of Mr Bartle's death.

Yep, sad news but over a week old....

The article said:

"Officers investigating the accident are appealing to anyone who may have witnessed the collision or saw the motorcycle being ridden beforehand to contact them."

WTF!!!! Why do they assume the bike was being ridden any way but safely? Why not ask if the car was being driven like a tw@t?
I thought the police were supposed to be impartial?

Possibly the car driver has claimed that the bike was being ridden dangerously, and they're trying to find out if this is true?

I heard a bit about this being local. Apparently he was accelerating from a slip road onto the A1 when the bike fishtailed and threw him off. He was hit by a vehicle on the A1.

Please do not draw any inference from that, as there isn't any it's just what I heard.

If this is incorrect, I'm happy for someone to correct me.

RIP

If that is true then they should have just asked for witnesses, as the statement stands, they are implying that they suspect the rider was at fault.

I read about this on VD the other week and the article really annoys me. They've dropped in the 'high performance' bikes bit, the '1000cc' bit and then asked for people who saw the bike being ridden. Theres really no need to mention the high performance bit as it just infers that he was riding quickly.

RIP though, sad news.

Sadly another case of suspected of being guilty unless proven otherwise.

Tragically the one person who really knows the truth has died!

Or it could be,

Could anyone who saw the accident please get in touch?

I dont think they are necessarily looking to pass blame on anyone, and people are reading into this for the sake of reading into it.

that's not what it says.

It asks what witnesses who saw the collision - or who saw the motorcyle being ridden beforehand.

And that can be read as did you see someone ride this stupidly high powered motorcycle at extreme speeds?

I just think people are spoiling for an argument, when in reality thoughts of condolence should be made.

I for one have made my point, and am leaving it there!

sounds to me like they're making a big thing of the 1000cc angle, and the mag's name. DOn't seem really all that bothered about the tragedy, just trying to blame the poor guy.

Still - he died doing something he loved. And in the end, what more fitting way to go? Rest in Peace chap.
