I've just got my car back after having diff remove, refurbed and refitted, I noticed on the drive back that the speedo doesn't pick up until about 15-20mph, I've never paid that much attention before, does this sound like I need to have the speedo sensor position adjusted? The lad that did the job said he measured it before and after but I'm not sure how accurately it has to be positioned.

QBee, this is my 3rd chim and I don't recall any being this bad but maybe I'm normally watching where I'm going.
Fablux, I wondered if it maybe wasn't quite as close as it used to be, maybe just a half turn on the clamping nuts. How difficult is the sensor to get at, do I need exhaust off or anything like that, if it's a right pain tempted to ask my mate to check it as he's been paid for the job, if its a doddle I might have a go myself.

I do know though that 2,000rpm in 3rd is as near as dammit 30mph, 2,000 in 4th is as near as dammit 40mph, 2,000rpm in 5th is as near as dammit 50mph but 3,000rpm is dead on 90. Now work that out!
BTW QB ... I'm planning to be up at my dads place the first week of August if you fancy saying hello.

You don't have to take the exhaust off, and you can reach it if you put one arm in on each side of the suspension from under. It is a little bit tricky, not impossible but a little time consuming to find it, and then find it again with the tools.Fablux, I wondered if it maybe wasn't quite as close as it used to be, maybe just a half turn on the clamping nuts. I spoke to my mate who did the job, he tells me he measured the gap with feelers on removal and put it back at the same gap, maybe he did.
I also spoke to the electrical engineer in the office, he reckons if the sensor is close enough to give a reading at 20mph it's close enough to be picking up all the time, the type of sensor it is apparently isnt affected by speed, it should just send pulses to the speedo or whatever is convering the pulses to display a speed.
Perhaps it's always been as it is, I'm still unconvinced but maybe I need to get into the habbit of watching where I'm going instead of the speedo.
Anybody else notice the speedo staring at 15-20 or maybe better to ask if anybodies speedo starts at 0-5mph?

The point is that all cars with the BTR diff don't work direct to the speedo, the signals go via a conversion box under the dash. I have a feeling that this is the cause of the lack of any indication under 15-20 mph. Only the older cars with the older diff (?GKN) and possibly the LT77 gearbox route their speed signal directly to the speedo
