Hi all
Need some advice please,just got down to Italy arrived at the hotel all going great. Went to move the Vantage(SS)and it stalls twice in reverse. Then it wouldn't select a gear, then it start shuddering when asked for a gear now it won't do anything. All this has been stationary. I am assuming that the clutch has failed but didn't know if there is any form of electronic reset to try and why it should go just like that.
Have put a call into BR to try to get some advice but any suggestions appreciated.

No it won't takes around 20 seconds for the neutral light to come on and you don't get the usual clunk that accompanies the clutch learn.

Does the car move/push in neutral, or is it locked in gear? Is it parked on a very steep hill? What mileage on the car?

Sorry for late reply been picking up hire car. It won't select any gear at all although dash says 1st or reverse so no drive at all. Put it in gear and raise the revs nothing happens and then after a few seconds the display switches back to neutral. 20 years of taking TVRs into Europe without any problems I couldn't sort myself 1st time with the Aston and it looks certain to be repatriated lol.

That's bad st mate really is and it's ruined your trip but the Aston is normally very reliable,much more than a TVR
Hopefully it's a quick fix and not a trailer home.

Well to Stefano in particular and in general thanks for the support. It turns out the system had disconnected itself apparently due to being on a steep slope whilst in reverse and on lock. The garage tried to explain it to me but my Italian is not up to it. Anyway system is reset and appears to be working fine now so fingers crossed we can enjoy the rest of our fortnight in and around Florence etc.

This is my personal opinion;;;;;;;;
For all sportshift owners;;;;
If you leave a manual car in gear on a steep slope, and the handbrake allows the car to creep, there will be a lot of tension created within the gearbox. I have experienced a couple of sportshift [including the Ferrari system] cars "locking in gear" because of this tension on a steep slope, and on very rare occasions the hydraulic system isn't strong enough to release it. If you select neutral twice before switching off, the car will stay in neutral instead of selecting first gear. If you've been driving spiritedly, the handbrake may release as the rear brake discs/pads cool down. Point the front wheels into the kerb if you're worried about your handbrake. If you park facing UPHILL, select REVERSE gear before switching the car off, and point the front wheels away from the kerb.
Hope this helps.

One more thread that makes me happy I opted for a manual tranny.

So glad the shop was able to sort your car so you can continue to enjoy the holiday!

Indeed this is Aston's advice as below

The normal car status when the ignition is turned off is for the TCU to select 1st gear.
When parking on an “uphill” slope, turn the wheels towards the centre of the road and turn the ignition off in the normal manner.
To leave the car in reverse, select “R” and turn the ignition off. If parking on a “downhill” slope, turn the wheels towards the kerb.
To leave the car in Neutral (for towing or pushing) quickly pull and release both paddles simultaneously twice (an audible warning tone will sound and a relevant message will display in the right hand message centre) and turn the ignition off.
The gear selected at ignition off will be engaged when the ignition is subsequently turned on.

Mike from BR contacted me at the weekend unfortunately the car had already been recovered by then.
In the instance the car was in I am not sure what I should have done though.
Small car park on a slope with all the spaces taken up, left car while booking in and finding out where I could park. Should I put it in neutral before turning off the engine and trust in the handbrake or put handbrake on and leave in gear?

OK and Sorority! Getting more like Life of Brian every day!

FRANCIS: Yeah. I think Judith's point of view is very valid, Reg, provided the Movement never forgets that it is the inalienable right of every man--

STAN: Or woman.

FRANCIS: Or woman... to rid himself--

STAN: Or herself.

FRANCIS: Or herself.

REG: Agreed.

FRANCIS: Thank you, brother.

STAN: Or sister.

FRANCIS: Or sister. Where was I?

REG: I think you'd finished.

FRANCIS: Oh. Right.
