Barcelona near miss?

I know quite often people post up near misses, and generally they are not as bad as they appear, but I would have loved to have heard the atc commentary on this.

I'll put it down to the quality of the vid then, from the aircraft movement after power on and the overhead shot it looked a little dodgy.

I thought "go arounds" were landing aircraft not departing the runway quick enough? Not other aircraft crossing live runways!

I'd think that any aircraft would need approval to cross an active runway, so either the crew or controllers would be at fault with another aircraft so close on aproach.

Without knowing the layout of the airfield, it does seem a bit strange that the aircraft would need to cross the runway once and then have to cross it again?

Also surely the crew of the plane on the ground would look up the flight path as (or should I say, before) they entered the runway? I've only done PPL VFR flying but that was always drummed into me, whether to cross or for t/o?

How do you know it's an incursion? I couldn't get the sound to work on the feed so I may be missing something. But aircraft slow to clear an active runway is nothing new. Also crossing an active runway is nothing new, happens every day at Mancester.
An incursion is entering an active runway without clearance, this chap may have had clearance.

Interesting that ATC say that there was sufficient separation, the video suggests otherwise but depth perception can play tricks. Either way, good decision to go around.

I've been on one of those before. Coming in to land and then you are on full thrust and climbing again.

Pilot was very cool at the time telling us that another plane was on the runway

That is what pilots are for ! it didn't look like a massive problem in this instance, but the same scenario in poor visibility and it could have been, shades of Tenerife.

You're quite right he may well have done in which case an ATCO is in the st. Regardless the scenario presented in the video is not a daily occurrence

PPRuNe reckoned at least 1km separation. I don't think it's ideal but telephoto perspective compression/foreshortening makes it look a *lot* worse than it is.

Seriously though, a commercial pilot mate has joked about flying to Spanish airports before, is it really that bad?

Should point out that I'm aware of the fact that this particular incident could easily be pilot error.
