CV check please

Evening chaps,

I quit my job last year to go travelling and I've recently ended up in Melbourne on a working holiday visa.

I used to work in IT and was hoping to do something similar here, even if it's just a temp contract.

I've applied for a few jobs and heard absolutely nothing back so wanted to get the CV checked. Please be brutally honest!

I'm not happy with the personal statement but never know how to word them without sounding like an ahole:

Convert to outcomes based (what you achieved, not what you did). Remove superfluous wording (references available upon request. They know that already). Remove all superfluous formatting.

Reword the personal statement to say something like:

5 years experience in technician role of customer sales, working in X industry as a 24/7 on call support bod or 1st line tech to deal with clients on a realtime solutions such as blah blah.... Proficient in technologies X, Y, Z, AA, AB, etc... to an experienced/expert level.

Put the education under the personal statement for example

• Professional courses
Fundamentals to IT, HUB, HTML, WSBCC, UNIX, WSAD, UML, Jprobe, OO.
Electronic Data Systems: soft skills, analysis, JAVA with VAJ, QTP Advanced 5.6, TestDirector 7.2, C#, Securities/Investments, FSA Regulations, Exchange Traded Derivatives Administration, ClearVision software suite (ClearQuest, ClearCase, Subversion, Tortoise)

I think what you have here is that the HR/recruiters cant see the key words, so they bin the CV as its not easy to read and frankly (the harsh bit) the personal statement sucks and its the same generic crap of "im a hard worker and will utilise my expert knowledge to make you great" style of statement.

I suggest adding that you can surf, BBQ, love cricket and watch Crocodile Dundee every night. The Aussies seem to like that sort of thing
