New Porsche Cayenne deposit - Is it reasonable?

At the risk of sounding off, are you sure you can afford to run a new Cayenne if you are concernted about finding 3k deposit to hold your place in the queue? They are not a "budget" vehicle.

No where in my post I suggested that I have difficulty finding the money. Please read the post again and try and not to be patronising. It is a question about the timing of the deposit and not the money.

Imo,, 3k is okay, even without the official info.. Its returnable to you anyway if you decide not to ride with it..

If you are not worried about the 3k then you either want the car, and wish to deal with that dealer in which case give them 3k, or you dont want the car and or the dealer.... only you can answer this.

It wouldnt seem unusual for a dealer to want a deposit to be on the list for a car. Or have you bought many cars from them before and are a "known quantity"?.

I would never agree to a deposit until I was sure I had a purchase agreement and knew right to the penny what the vehicle cost. Even then I'd insist the deposit be refundable. However, if the vehicle is special order and optioned in a way that would make the vehicle hard to sell to someone else I could understand if the dealer balked.

A deposit with no purchase agreement leaves one at a disadvantage when the vehicle comes in and the negotiations begin.

Which one would you like to know about 348, M3, XKR, 2 Tuscans, 996, S Class, Cayman?

Non of which required reassurance from the "internet" before giving the dealer a deposit.....

Also on Porsche website it states that the recommended deposit for the Cayenne is £2000 but dealer said that this is old information on the website.

I am keen to get the car and would be happy to pay the deposit, but do want to ask you guys if this demand is reasonable? should I walk away from this dealer? Has anyone else been in this situation and any advice? Thanks

It is normal for a Porsche dealer to only take a £3k deposit when a car is actually ordered to your own specification. but as the new Cayenne's delivery schedule and specification is not yet confirmed, I guess they can't yet do this.

I wouldn't be too concerned about leaving a £3k deposit to guarantee your place in the queue, its fully refundable until you actually order a vehicle.

Hi !

I purchase my New Porsches from my Local OPC and on both the purchase several years ago of a Cayman S (Since sold) and latest shape Cayenne it was the same process :-

Letter of intent - No cash deposit - several months later request for cash deposit (Can't remember the amount on the Cayman but certainly £.3 K in 2010 when purchasing my Cayenne - this is exactly where I'm at presently - OPC took my £.3 K 2 weeks ago and some sort of official info etc about the car will be announced at the end of July 14.

I have seen photographs of the face lift Cayenne - from what I recall :-

Macan like Grille treatment / Mecan Style Steering Wheel/White Effect Rear Light arrangement

It is called a "Platinum Edition" for some reason (according to the pics I've seen)

I shall be taking delivery of another Oil Burner which I understand to have an increased power output.

When I bought my 911 , they wanted £1000 deposit , it was quite funny when the cc machine wouldn't work.

I'm sure they thought I'd just pull a grand in wedge out my back pocket instead.

Different dealers have different approaches to this.

I've been asked for deposits very early before any details were available and other times an LOI was sufficient until quite close to order.

Sorry but I agree with some others on here, if you're concerned about £3k then IMO you cannot afford the car and should've ordered something cheaper

My friend you too got it wrong - not concerned but it was a question about the timing of the deposit and the principle. I know I could have bought a KIA.
