I'm just trying to get any experiences from any readers, on anything that can make a nasty cold more bearable to live with.

I have the usual symptoms. Headache, horrible cough, running nose, feeling sick, sore throat and feeling tired.

Obviously I'm dealing with it but this one is on par with the flu and I've had that twice before.

Thankyou smile

Being a nurse doesn't give you experience with colds.

I work on a ward that is deals with pre and post operative gastric and vascular surgery. Not colds.

I've tried Beechams and it has little effect, though some is better than none. Thank you for the input smile

A cold us a virus, pretty much nothing will affect it, you just have to wait for your immune system to kick in.

So knowing that, you are just treating symptoms. Paracetamol and ibuprofen for aches and temperature. Decongestant for snot. Plenty of liquids. Keep warm.

Sudafed or similar keeps the nasal airways open for a good 8 hours or so and stops that incessant drop.. drip... drip... which generally improves how you feel.

Aberlour or Glenlivet whisky with added honey & hot water [ about 50/50 ]

Gargle on the way down ....helps 'cleanse' the throat / tonsil area

Clears the tubes & a restful sleep

Day Nurse and Night Nurse.

Brilliant (although take care with the Night Nurse...it can really knock you out and leave you feeling fuzzy the next morning)

Where the hell did you get your nursing degree that they didn't mention treating the most common viral disease on Earth?

Get very drunk then sleep with the window open.

I don't know how it works - but it does!

I ritually sacrifice a neighbour's cat.

A few days afterwards I always feel better.

Eat and drink loads. Get plenty of calories in you + paracetamol for headaches etc.

This also helps to ward off getting a cold in the first place IME smile

Loads of chilli and garlic. If that fails then a load of booze. Always works for me.

Next time, when you feel the first signs of a cold, drink as much of the cheapest red wine you can in one evening.

I would say it is >50% likely to be effective. If it works you just get a 'shadow' of a cold for a few days.

Trust me, this is not BS!
