British GP ticket terms and conditions

As I was about to throw away my GP ticket this morning I idly looked at the Ts and Cs on the back. Wow - aggresssive isn't the word. You can't take in a video camera (try telling that to all the smartphone users) and you automatically assign the copyright in any images or recordings you make to Bernie & Co.

I would have thought these terms are more or less unenforceable. As it happened I couldn't be arsed to take a single photo, not even a selfie, while I was there but really, this is big-time overkill. Someone (not me) had paid a lot for my ticket and if it had been my money I wouldn't be impressed.

Furthmermore, the soul has been ripped out of the event. It's clinical and corporate beyond belief. Admittedly I haven't been for a while, and first went in 1972 so am probably now an old fart, but the glory days are surely gone for ever. I could bang on about being overhead the pit counter when Jody Scheckter caused the big end-of-first lap accident in '73 or any number of other memorable days, but (despite pleasant hosts and a nice lunch) yesterday hardly even registers on the scale.

I went to the British grand prix a couple of years ago and was pretty underwhelmed by it all. I do enjoy watching it on TV but the extreme commercialisation of it and the unbelievable prices for anything more than being crammed onto a muddy hillside are hard to swallow.

Check out the prices for full hospitality packages including catering, etc - you could have a couple of weeks abroad for the same money.

You'd have to be a masochist to enjoy going to a modern F1 race as a paying punter. I'm surprised they don't insist on punching you in the face on the way in just to add that final 'fk you' touch.
