I'm being seriously tempted to use my Merc E55 fund to buy one of these instead.. or a 450, probably about £15K

Need you lot to tell me all the reasons I should NOT get a Chimera!!!

Many thanks,

Charlie.

So if you get no responses to this thread, you'll go and buy one?

Bad things:

Needs TLC. Lots of TLC.
Needs maintenance. Lots of maintenance.
Needs petrol. Lots of petrol.
Needs waxoyl. All over the chassis.

It will leak vital fluids - from almost everywhere - you need a drip tray under it at all times.

It WILL let you down at some point.

Things will fall off - regularly. Door mirrors especially.

Good things:

Sounds fabulous.
Goes like stink.
Looks fantastic.

Now what on earth are you mess about for? If you actually want one go out and buy one immediately. They're completely brilliant whilst also being, errrrm, "shite"?

You should not get a Chimaera because :-

a) It's noisy
b) It's a convertable
c) It's fast
d) It's a bird magnet
e) It's got a big rumbly V8

Go to TVR Power - ask for a drive in the 'Taraka' demonstrator - job done!
Its awsome, even in 5th gear its still pulling like stink!
Yes, they can make you cry, but the grin after driving is like that post coital moment - priceless!

The TVR will cost less than an ex wife (I speak from experience twice divorced and a chimaera 500 owner)

Vixpy,

Do it!!! I've had mine and experienced every single emotion known to man and then a few others reserved for TVR owners! However, if you like the Merc, you'll hate the Chimp unless like every other bod who's posted a reply, you're completely insane!!! Let us know what you do.

Cheers, Mike.

On the bright side...owning a Chimaera will teach you an awful lot about car maintenance that you would never get to learn with a 'sterile' reliable, modern car.

It is vital that you choose the car carefully - get expert advice/inspection before you part with any money.

Remember, if it flies, floats, is furry, or s, rent it.

But buy the TVR.

Only reason I am getting rid of mine now is new baby on the way - the chim can't carry us all!
Otherwise, go for it - YHM

Looking at your profile, I would suggest a Chim was a good move…

I think all point have been covered.. Needs TLC, but I don't regret buying mine for a minute… still makes me smile every time I get in it.

More importantly, why would you want an E55?

I still want a fast everyday car to replace my knackered old pug, but I can switch the scooby to everyday useage and get rid of the flaming pug!

I like E55s, massive amount of car for the money!

But it's not a five litre wife beater though!

Do it mate - you won't regret it, some good deals around too!

Had mine for 3.5 years, best thing I ever bought. I think I've also been luckier than Don, it needs regular maintenance sure, but that's about it (now on 60k). Research will show you that there are lots of cars that do x,y,z better than a TVR, however they are either more expensive, slower or just don't have any soul. Very few machines can put as broad a grin on your face for the money.

I see you're local to me, so please feel free to drop in to the monthly Surrey Region TVRCC meet. Also, if you fancy a run out in mine sometime, you'd be welcome.

Steve.

In a TVR, any TVR, you will meet and get to know a much nicer class of people!

Thanks for all the replies, I am currently waiting on my trade insurance companies quote, and then after Christmas I need to see how much money I can put towards it!
