Epiphone Casino Issue

Hi guys,

I have had my Epiphone Casino since Christmas and have noticed a developing issue. The strings buzz when picked and the buzzing noise is coming from the bridge. The strings are 7 months old and seem a bit thick for the saddle so I'm going to replace them as soon as. I was wondering if like tyres on a car there is a specific string gauge which must be used with a given guitar.

Another issue I nearly forgot is that the chrome finish on the pick-ups have fogged up as if so done has breathed on them. However it is not buffing out when I use a micro-fibre.

So yeah if you can solve any of these I'll be very great full.

You can use any strings you like, however, due to tension differences, the guitar will need be set up to deal with them.

Therefore, it makes most sense to go with what they use at the factory. I don't know the Casino model too well, but the usual Epiphone les paul set up is 10 gauge I believe.

Not sure on the finish on the Picks ups. I presume there is no plastic protective cover on them? Worst case, pick up covers are replaceable for a fairly low cost.

Seven month old strings will be well past their use-by date and are likely to buzz. Much more than a month would be pushing it if you play a lot.

In terms of gauge you probably want a 10s set on a Casino. Ernie Ball Regular Slinky are pretty common and as good as any other, D'Addario have the advantage of coloured ends to help tell them apart.

Thank you both. I usually play the strings until they snap as I didn't really have the money to be buying strings every month. I used to use Ernie ball super ski lies but I tried some of the Da addario ones and found them to be way better so I shall order a set of those in the 10 gauge size. As for the pick ups I'm sure I'll find some on eBay as you say. My only worry is how hard they are to replace. Anyway I'll cross that bridge when I come to it. Thanks again guys.
