OK a litttle weird I know, but bear with me here...

I like the A34. Its an unusual confession I know but there you go. I like its blue collar honesty, its two lane dedication to motorists who are making A Run. It doesnt bother with the hooners, the posers, the poncy journos. It doesnt waste its time pretending its some waste of space triangle in the arse end on nowhere.

The A34...its a road with a purpose and a working romanticism.

Whereas I hate it. As soon as someone crashes or stops there is no hard shoulder so sits on the carriageway and causes massive tailbacks.

The McDonalds at Tot Hill, by the junction with the old A34 is a great stopping place. Nice early morning breakfast. Also the secret pub by Chieveley, great pub food/beer, just breaks up the journey midlands to Dorset.

If it does all turn to ratst, you can always take the other secret exit out of the back of the services to the 303.....

Surely the A34 north of the M4 is the worst road in the UK. Elephant race central.

what the fk is this guy talking about?
I have to use this road sometimes, it's a pain, 2 lanes only and lots of trucks with hill which makes the trucks think they need to over take each other then get stuck next to each other holding everyone up

Not quite. The section south of the M4 is equally as bad if not worse. No one, but no one uses the inside lane.
I've stopped using that bit of road now and go through Overton and Kingsclere etc until rejoining just north of Newbury. It takes about 10-15 minutes longer, but blood pressure is becalmed while I trundle between green fields and rolling hills, usually with the tarmac to myself.

Did you travel back to Blighty via Amsterdam? wink

The bit that I sometimes use, M40 to A44, is essentially like an MG convoy, a mass of old people driving as slowly as possible to the cemetary.

Not only that, but one can view and appreciate some of ancient England's most important and historical burial mounds and Pagan SSSI's whilst utilising this amazing stretch of road biggrin

The difference between me and you lot I suppose. I LIKE that you have to work the traffic, that you cant just sit in a lane with cruise on at 85, that you have to actually do something. You have to drive, you have to make an effort. You have to anticipate, read the traffic flow, gain a vibe of how the road is moving. Thats motoring. I believe he is referring to the ghastly rise in the number of people trying to grow rhubarb.

'The Rhubarb Triangle is a 9‑square‑mile triangle in West Yorkshire, England between Wakefield, Morley and Rothwell famous for producing early forced rhubarb. It includes Kirkhamgate, East Ardsley, Stanley, Lofthouse and Carlton.'

Shome Mishtake Shurely? I assume he meant the Evo Triangle? Or should I ensure I remain at home this morning to receive a visit from Mr. W. Ooshparrot?
