TT tdi or E92 3.0d ?

I've had 4 Audis with this engine in and have done 10s of thousands of miles trouble free in each. My neighbour has a vRS with this engine and has had no problems, as has my friend with his GTE and 100,000 miles on the clock.
My TT TDI ran flawlessly every time, and was a great car to drive.
None of the same can be said of the 118d I had though. I drove it normally, serviced it correctly and it was just rubbish. Had a misfire that BMW had to fix, noisy, smelly, gutless, expensive to maintain. So I got rid of it thankfully.

118D against an Audi TT is hardly a fair comparison. Something like a 120/125D would be fairer.My TT TDI ran flawlessly every time, and was a great car to drive.

I've not got any experience of the 3 series but my wife has a TT Tdi and we both have only nice things to say about it, can be used in all weather with the Quattro AWD, looks good (especially in S-Line or black edition guise) and returns good MPG. Performance wise it goes quite well but I doubt it would keep up with a 330d but I would be surprised if a 3 series handled as well as the TT on twisties.

Agree with this we went from a E90 330d to a TTS and the two cars don't really compare to be honest for me totally different types of motor, the 3.0d in the beemer is a really good engine for a diesel and surely a sporty type of car like the TT deserves a petrol engine under its bonnet or at least a powerful diesel engine and the TT tdi has neither. Much more power and the chassis miles more fun.

Only my view of course as I know a few owners of the TT tdi and they are more than happy with theirs so just buy the one you fancy the most.

In my experience certainly in the dry I would much rather punt a 330d around the twisties than a TT as you get very little feedback as to what`s happening in a TT whereas the chassis and steering in the beemer are far superior for me personally. Lost soul said:
