My other vice apart from cars is watches.

I currently wear a Sieko Sportura as a daily alongside a Mondaine when it suits me.

My group MD visited yesterday, in the blaze of forecast / Actuals / Project spiel I caught his timepiece.

Simple, elegant and very classy. A gentleman's watch if you may.

Looking at prices they retail around £5k I think. Was thinking about passing it from son to son also when I keel over.

Always saw Rolex as gaudy with it being so lauded in hip hop videos. But this watch is what I want now. Wife is gonna murder me after I just spunked a shedload on the M

I've got one - a 'vintage' one from '88, which I got for my 21st too many years ago. I find it a little small now, although it still looks very classy. My girlfriend has it now and gets a lot of positive comments.

£5k would get you a very nice pre-owned datejust.

A lot less will get you an excellent 'Date' , far classier than a DJ.

What's the difference between the date & datejust then?

Perhaps the OP is alluding to a Submariner? Certainly fits the bill of his description.

Always thought Oyster Perpetual date was a regular movement and the DateJust was chronometer certified (and sometimes carried a fluted bezel).

not true. Both are available with fluted bezel and both are chronometer certified.

I have a plain 1988 Datejust and I find it a classy watch. It has a silver face and in some lights it glints slightly gold. That still makes me smile after a long time of owning it. I have many other watches but I rarely wear anything else.

I have a bi-colour Date, a Datejust and an Oysterdate Precision. The goldy Date is shiny but the others are both extremely subtle.
