Where can I find a mid-70's W114 280 CE
Discussion
Hullo,
Currently pootling around in an MX5 (which is excellent fun) but I'm having withdrawal symptoms from not owning some aged German metal. To that end, I've been looking at an old W114 coupe. Annoyingly, I missed a great looking example in Kent recently but, as I was between contracts, I had to pass it by.
I've had a look at the usual classic Mercedes dealer on-line but these models seem to be rare as rocking horse er... eggs. Is there an owners club or anything like that anyone could recommend?
Cheerio,
Mr Diff.

Google? Never heard of it...
Yep, seen a few of those before. The Primrose Yellow example is lovely and, seemingly, lives in Blackheath (at least, that's where the photos appear to have been taken). Yellow, though... It's certainly individual.
w114 coupe prices are starting to approach s-class coupe (like the one above) values now they're getting very rare and dealers are getting hold of them (usually snapping up private sales quickly)- a couple of years ago you could get a good one for £5-8k, now they're into 5 digits.
If I were you I'd look for a pre-73 'first generation' car, imho the later car's styling isn't quite as nice (clunkier mirrors, wider grille, no double front bumper etc), with the 250 engine, which again imho is smoother and less busy-sounding as the 280. Both get around 20mpg at best.
Rust is the killer with these old Mercs- check everywhere. Normal service parts are pretty easy to find and they're not difficult to work on. Trim, inside and out is expensive though.
carandclassic is probably your best bet as suggested, condition and history as usual the thing to look for
