A foolproof way would be for Red 1 to give each singleton a post-it note for his dashboard, sorry instrument panel. One says UNDER, the other says OVER. Old school is good.

Photo is a bit crap, he was panning the camera to the jet on the right of the photo but this means the jet on the left has a lot of motion blur.

Higher shutter speed next time.

Tricky, even at 8000th of a second each Hawk will travel a couple of centimetres during the exposure, and if you can't predict exactly where the cross will be it's difficult to get the shot without panning.

This. You pretty much have to pan with one and hope to nail the other en passant using the other eye. In fact if both aircraft were completely frozen it would look a bit false.
