Value of a good 356/912 engine? Where to sell it?

Following on from my other thread about having a 356/912 motor rebuilt (lots of helpful PH'ers there so thanks for that!) I am now getting my original 912 engine rebuilt, which means I have a spare engine to sell!

The problem is I haven't seen a single one of these engines for sale in the 2-3 months I have been browsing the internet for one, so I have absolutely no idea what to ask for it?

Also, would leaving it in the car be a better thing so someone can come and drive the actual motor before leaving a deposit for it and I can have it taken out? What would you do?

It's a cracking engine that runs perfect with loads of power so I would prefer someone came and drove the car with it in and then I can have it removed for them.

Any thoughts?

Customer got a good price for his off eBay, it was shagged too (which was listed). One thing he did say was he could have got loads more if he'd not put it as local pick up. He ended up strapping it to a pallet & shipping it anyway but he reckoned there were plenty of people who obviously had saved searches for them on the 'bay as within a few hours of listing it he had loads of cash offers & questions about it.

Eta, if you can't be arsed with the above, sign up to Ddk (as I'm sure you're aware), it's bound to be a decent market place for it
