Another "what car" thread...hopefully a little different.
I've just sold the E60 M5 and I'm looking for a short term fun car. I don't use finance and I don't want to tie up much money in the car for the moment as I'm in the process of moving houses but running costs aren't an issue. So I'm looking for something cheap to keep me entertained for the next 6 months.
The full criteria:
- Will put a smile on my face
- Is nice to look at/respectable
- 4 seats (but as my 2 year old only sometimes comes in the car this can be 2+2)
- MPG/Maintenance/Running cost not a problem
- Happy to take on a small project to bring it up to scratch
- Sub £3K

£3k will get you a Corrado VR6, but it won't be a good one! £4-£5k for a decent useable sorted car. Rarity factor comes into it. If it was a budget of £3k then an E46 330Ci would be my choice..E46 330i - Will be a high mileage one but should tick all the boxes.

Returning to a hot hatch would be a little regressive and may bring back bad memories of a mis-spent youth.
An E46 330 had crossed my mind. For that price it would probably be leggy but has the right combination of engine and handling for me. I'm also quite partial to the E36 as well and I'm considering an E36 M3 for my next proper car once the house is sorted.
Whilst I love Alfas, and the 156 GTA is up there with the E36 M3 for my next serious car, I'm not sure the backseats on the GTV would even fit a 2 year old in a car seat. They are pretty though.
For now I'll waste my day trawling Flea bay for a 330Ci but let's see if anybody else has some wise ideas.

Then get a 156 2.5 V6...Can be had for pennies and are miles more practical than a GTV.
In fact, I bought a 3.2 GTV to replace my 156, but discovered that I preferred driving the 156. I ended up selling the GTV and keeping my old 156.
The cabin is more comfortable, the 2.5 engine sounds nicer and revs better, it is better to drive, reasonably economical and mine has been very reliable.
They give away a bit of power to the GTA, but bearing in mind the price difference, the 156 V6 is something of a bargain.
The best one in the world is only worth about £1500.
I've moved on to a 2.4 JTD, but my old V6 is in storage because it is just not worth selling.
