MOT mileage error

I recently bought a G wagon that came from Japan.

The dash was in japanese language and KM. It was MOTd and they put the KM figure in as the mileage.
I spent all of 60 seconds playing with the Merc COMAND dash and managed to not only change it to English but you can switch between kM and Miles.

Upshot now being that I have a car with 44k miles that was MOTd a month ago showing 69000km but the MOT says 69000miles.

Answers if this is sortable on a postcard. It might just take explaining if I ever sell it but would be good to know.

Can the MOT station or VOSA update the record?

If not, then i'd take 2 dated pictures of the dashboard, showing the real mileage and kilometerage, and keep them with the service history

It happens a lot.. VOSA have a document on what to do if it happens... If it has been longer than 7 days you're going to need to contact them.

Phoned VOSA helpline; spoke to a very helpful lady. Put me on the the local HGV testing station, who were even more helpful.
Apparently if I go along there before 8am tomorrow morning armed with the service history and the car, they will change it.

I don't believe it will actually be that easy, but who knows.

I believe it. VOSA are far more helpful and sensible than the DVLA in my experience.

She said on the phone that it does happen fairly regularly, and since I have a pretty comprehensive service history with the mileages and no pages missing etc it should be obvious the mistake.

It would of course been easier for the importer to change it over before MOT but at least it looks fixable.

Just to round this off in case it ever comes up in a search, I now have an MOT Certificate with the correct mileage. Visited the place showed a guy the car and that was it. Astounded!
