just got my self a project chim.

so today I went to have a look at a potential project car and ended up buying it as you do.
as it happens its exactly the same as the chim I had around 8 years ago.
Dark met blue with oatmeal trim. its even a 98R plate the only difference is its a 400 not a 450.
there are a few buttons in this one that I don't remember in the last but im sure it will come back to me.
anyway it has had new outriggers fitted and has a massive history fine for the mechanical bits.
it has been off the road for a around 2years. However it has now got a new mot.
so having not moved more than a mile or two in the last few years the inertia is well and truly f**ked.
the seats are damp and cracked the carpets are dust and it stinks.
however the 118 miles home were wet bum aside uneventful it drove spot on.
so I sent the time looking for all the bit that were broke.
electric mirrors
passengers side window
temp gauge reads stone cold all the time. (which is the sender for the gauge)
the seats are rusted in one place so I had to press the peddles with the tip of my toes (legs now hurt)
im sure ill find more
the other main problem is the paint is quite poor all over.
on another note this one has AC but as of yet no clue how to turn it on.
some updates and pics will follow tomorrow.

I had a quick look and can see 3 senders.
One in the swirl tank with 2 wires. One down the side of the dizzy and on top next to the dizzy sort of but that has nothing on it
Swirl pot wires are for the fans. One next to the dizzy is the gauge sender (I think) and I think the other one is the Range Rover sender. One in the swirl tank with 2 wires. One down the side of the dizzy and on top next to the dizzy sort of but that has nothing on it
so today ive removed all the stinking wet carpets, seats and trim.

ive fixed the drivers window so it actually closes all the way. the top bolt had fell out so the mechanisam had dropped down.
fixed the passengers window so it now moves (poor connection)
then I cleaned the hood. I wasn't sure if id have to replace it but its come up ok. first I cleaned it with auto glim hood cleaner then a x5 steam mop type thing with a bit more work it should be salvable.
the seats are completely shot. the runners and rake adjuster are seized solid all the springs have rotted away and the leather is buggered too.
iv seen some mgf seats that look a good match for the car anyone no if they fit?
iv also tested the temp gauge fault it needs a new sensor anyone no the part number for a cross ref my local suppliers say they don't list it.
hears some quick picks. they do it justice the paint is chipped and scratched all over cant decide if I should have it painted or get it wrapped? what do you guys think

A few options for seats if you're going to spend a couple hundred quid anyway.. mk2 mx5 go straight onto the runners apparently, elise seats look good, Intatrim Telford do a decent selection of new ones.
IMO paint should be last on the list, spend a couple hours with some colour magic or some G4 and then wax the nuts off of it. Get it painted once it's reliable and you've driven it about for a bit
