Needed a car to do a job. That job was to deliver chinese takeaways in reasonable comfort, whilst being reliable and using a little fuel as possible.
Initially I was looking at 1.4-1.6 petrol hatchbacks (Leons, Ibizas, Focus' etc) until I saw this come up on eBay for £450.

It's a 1998, S reg Peugeot 106 1.5 Diesel, Zest 3. 116k, came with pretty much full MOT and tax. Interior is in 9/10 condition, horn doesn't work and neither do the heater control backlights. Exterior is solid, there's no rust but lacquer peel all over the shop. Being a Zest 3 it has some creature comforts like a sunroof, electric windows and power steering but as far as I can tell not a lot else, but the seats are nice and soft so we should be alright.
I'm not too hot on these engines, so anybody with any information or experience let me know, the eBay seller seemed to think he was getting 65mpg; would that be realistic? Always wanted to run a car on biodiesel, anybody here ever done this?

I ran one of these for about 6 years for a daily commute of 50 miles each way. One of the most basic, economical and reliable cars I've ever had. Apart from the usual consumables, tyres, brakes, glow plugs, I think the only thing that I had to spend money on was a new radiator. No power steering on mine though so I ended up with forearms like Popeye.

The lacquer peel theme continues around the sides, onto the roof and onto the bootlid; superb.
I really love this car, it's so honest, basic and fun to drive I just can't dislike it. Only issue that really affects me is the fact the cigarette lighter isn't there for some reason, which is annoying as it means I can't charge my phone or sat nav whilst I'm in the car (Which is a lot)

Very! No weight and skinny tyres, plus being a 1.5 diesel there's not exactly loads of power, so I've found the trick is to not lose speed as much as possible.HereBeMonsters said:
Get one of those extender things, then wire it into where the socket should be. I had to do that on my 205, as the sockets are French sized.

Another minor annoyance with this car is the rear heated window button doesn't work, you can push it in but it doesn't 'click' in if that makes sense. Saying that, this doesn't really bother me so I doubt I'll do anything.
Sorry, can't see ebay at work, but anything that takes a 12v feed and is a cigarette lighter socket should suit.
As for the HRW switch, I believe the salesman patter is "they all do that, sir". Use it a bit more, and it will free up. You can take it out and grease it up too, if you were so inclined. Or get a replacement switch for about a quid.

It simply activates the window and pops back to where it was, iirc it lights up, but the bulb could be gone or it may not be very visible in daylight. Failing that check fuse 2 (25 amp) in the fusebox behind the glovebox.
