Finally got my M5 on track this week & she excelledsmile

Was an Open Pit event at Anglesey Circuit (a track i've been dying to drive for a long long time) & the weather was perfect. I was delighted that the M5 kept most cars honest with just the R300/400 & 500 Caterhams, a V8 Racing Morgan & Ariel Atom being quicker. Had some fun battles with a variety of Porsches (including a 997 GT3) & an R8.

The tyres were truly amazing with monster grip when warm & very little tyre squeal. I got brave as the day went on & selected MDM which changed things entirely, however i did have a spin & believe me when i say that even in MDM when pushing hard on a bone dry track, the back becomes very lively & as well as the spin, i had several tank slappers (some deliberate & some not so). Off to Spa & the Ring in Sept & those will be even better suited to the M5's performancesmile Uploaded a few piccies below:

Looking good..

How were the brakes?

Did your previous white GTR go quicker? I spotted it in the photo...

Brakes were fine David, no issues whatsoever. Tyres i don't think will wear well with track use as they get very warm/sticky & thus lose rubber at a fair rate.

The GT-R was quicker in places but my M5 was quicker in other sections so both very balanced. Over a longer period i think the GT-R lap over lap would have been a touch quicker but that's to be expected given it's pushing 650bhp & my M5 certainly wouldn't have been embarrassedsmile

What are the T&C's regarding taking a lease car on the track?

I'm not planning on tracking mine, the cost outweighs the fun for me (based on my 997 track day costs), however yours does look rather good and at home considering it's such a large barge! wink

No idea, but i expect it says the same as Motor Insurance & that being no racing or Motorsport. Disagree regarding cost vs. fun as where else can you exploit the car other than on track or a couple of stretches of German Autobahn? Agree it's heavy so will increase wear on pads/discs & tyres, but they're not as expensive to replace on the M5 as some cars you'll see on track & i'll only be taking her on the wider more sweeping circuits so not too tough on the consumables.

Remind me i said that when i have to replace the rubber when i get back from Spa;)

Top man.

I'd love to do the same but would have to take some kind of insurance out just for peace of mind. Like you say they get a bit lively in MDM mode.

I've never been but I'm sure that's the first time I've heard it described like that!

Lol. My poor grammar as the reference was about Spa more than 'The Ring';)
