Windows XP desktop settings
Discussion
Why doesn't Windows XP keep it's desktop windows settings for window size, view type and also 'arrange icons by'. Also the folder type settings for folder within my Downloads folder change from normal to music style so I can't sort by date modified I have to reset that.
Mine just decides to change things at random, I usually have the, My Computer display like this as an example.
But then it does this. I don't do it so I guess it's done by Voodoo..
Anyone have a clue or am I to just add it to my list of "Why I hate Microsoft" (currently at 3 pages and growing).

Turn 'em all off and you should be in Utopia!!

The items display memory is poorly implemented, it only remembers the last 400 displays of a folder before it starts deleting it's cache. However it deletes it from the wrong end, the most recent first...
You can change this by doing the following:
By default, Windows remembers each folder's view settings and customizations. This data is limited to 400 folders and is stored in the following registry keys:
HKEY_CURRENT_USERSoftwareMicrosoftWindowsShell
HKEY_CURRENT_USERSoftwareMicrosoftWindowsShellNoRoam
To increase the number of folders that Windows can remember the view settings for, create a DWORD value named BagMRU Size in each of these registry keys, and set its value data to the number of folders that you want Windows to remember the settings for. For example, if you set the value to 5000, Windows can remember the settings for 5000 folders.
