Just had a look at the 200 piece set for £150, and think I'm going to have to bite the bullet and go for it.

I've actually been thinking about it for a couple of weeks now, but this post has put it back in my head again.

I have a couple of these, i leave them in the boot of my cars. Hugely useful and good quality.

Yup, had mine for 22 years now and apart from the hinges on the box breaking about 5 years back, still going strong.
The 20 quid jack I got from them at the same time seems to be finally dying though...don't they make anything to last these days?

Yeah but, if you bought six of the 36 pieces of the above mentioned, you'd have 216 pieces for £120!

I'm tempted by the 200 piece set too, but then the 150 piece set is only £100..... They don't make it that easy to compare exactly what is in each set IMO.

I've been using this 50 piece set for a while, it's very cheap but the ratchet isn't great as it needs quite a lot of movement to activate and the overall quality is definitely "you get what you pay for".

Mind you, I need to pop in to halfords tomorrow to test the lifetime guarantee.. without a receipt..

I recently bought a 28 piece 3/8" set from them, but it includes deep sockets instead of the screwdriver stuff.. It costs about a tenner more than the one OP posted (£30, half price from £60) but the deep sockets really do come in handy! Can't go wrong, seems like well built stuff and it's got a lifetime guarantee

Lidl occasionally offers some good quality kit at ridiculously low prices.

Also just watch out for how many of the 200 (or whatever) pieces are not metric - I don't know why they do this because for the overwhelming majority of people there is no application for imperial/AF/Whitworth sockets. Apart from my Briggs and Stratton law mower I've never ever needed them.

FWIW, the sets are always on sale so no rush.

Last month they replaced a 1/2" extension bar of mine. They were happy to do it without a receipt (it's pretty obvious where i got it from).

I may no attempt to hide the fact i bought the set it came in back in 1994 - I'd say replacing a 20 year old tool is as close to a lifetime guarantee as you'll get.

These went on mine too, didn't help that one of the sockets wasn't in properly which levered the hinges apart (be wary or this y'all). Fixed with 3 heavy duty metal ones from Wickes so now has a lovely smooth lid action :-)

Whatever you do, don't look at the tool chest and top box combo web only offers (buy one get the other free saving £200) or you'll end up with one in your kitchen and ear ache...
