The majority of people who succeed in the music business are a combination of production, make-up and marketing. Basically anyone can make it if they're given 'on trend' material to perform and then processed and marketed accordingly. If you think the likes of Spears and Perry are the exception, you're sadly mistaken.

Her early songs were very catchy and light hearted, I think she wrote them or at least co wrote. But she definitely isn't a good singer, she isn't even a competent one. Her looks have definitely kept her going as her songs have been terrible.

But to be fair after watching Glastonbury, most of the girls and boys today can hit notes, but not hold them. All of the singers that do the dancey stuff in the charts sound great on record but live they just haven't had the training to keep that note going in tune. They just sound flat.
