VW Touareg - new car discounts

Currently thinking about getting a Touareg mk2 (2010 onwards). Had originally thought of buying used. But, there currently appear to be some v attractive deals on buying new. For example, http://www.ukcarbroker.co.uk/new-cars/volkswagen/t...

So the cost of ownership over 3yrs or so might not be hugely different.

However, I've just read there's a facelift Touareg mk2 due within the next couple of months.

I am wondering, is it the impending facelift that is driving the current discounts? Or have big discounts on new Touaregs always been there?

If these discounts are likely to continue to the facelift model, I'd be better off waiting a few months and getting one of those. However, if the discounts suddenly dry up, then perhaps better off buying something now.

It's a new model not a facelift, as far as I know, so I doubt they will be discounting them from the off.

Current discounts are because of incoming new model. These will not be available once existing stock has sold. Friend has been offered one at £100 less per month than he is paying for his current one.

I'm sure it is a facelift (at least based on articles following Beijing motorshow).

I'm not in a massive rush. So could always wait until the end of the year, and try and pick up a facelift in December, when I'm told there are usually some good deals around (albeit zero experience myself of buying a new car in Dec).

JohnRS4 - do you know the monthly payment deal your friend was offered? The best I could see was 6/23 or 6/35 at around £400/mth (including VAT).

I'm open to a lease, but I'm not convinced it works out cheaper vs buying new with such a big discount.

Got to say they look like cracking prices on that website. Really like the Touareg too.

However, the guff in the description below the price panel takes some beating! First paragraph, for example:

rfoster (or any brokers reading) do you have an idea of what level of discount might be available on the new Touareg?

I wonder to what extent buying one now on discount would be a false economy?

Arnold clark (VW Franchise's) are selling pre reg Touaregs for £37k (r line models) father in law bought one at the turn of the year, believe they still have the odd one kicking about.

VW approved Used Touaregs with 5k miles are selling for £40k !

So while the discounts look great, it seems difficult to actually find any stock.

I've spoken to two brokers, both said they were no longer able to fulfill Touareg deals, as the outgoing model in no longer in production, and they can't source stock.

Presumably there is some unregistered stock out there, sitting on a few vw dealers forecourts. Is there a quick way of finding out who might (a) have stock and (b) willing to do a deal? (Ie not having to call around etc etc)
