Which warranty for a used car ?

I am in the market for a used SLK350 , seen one at a dealer offering a VGS warranty. I know from a previous thread and a little googling that its not worth having so can anyone recommend a reasonable warranty company ?

I have searched PH and the web and lots of mixed reviews so would be useful to have some real world PH experiences of warranty claims.

Unfortunately you need to be an AA member, I'm with RAC and swore I would never ever go back to the AA after a bad experience with them.

Just found the thread on Warranty direct, more bad news than good on them as well. And Mercedes wont offer their own warranty on the car I am looking at either.

All warranties are crap.

The AA breakdown repair cover has been brilliant, on numerous occasions.

Compared to a warranty claim I had due to the dealers incompetence, they didn't want to know, and told me fcck off is as many words!

The AA might have given you bad customer service, but sometimes it's okay to forgive

A repair cover scheme would be better than a warranty, as the warranty will only cover 4 items whereas a repair cover policy will probably cover a lot more.

The AA warranty covers pretty much everything other than consumables (and clutches)

Having been stung previously by a warranty that weaseled out of a PS Rack replacement I now just stick some money away in a separate savings account each month as my bork fund. This has the added bonus that you get all your money back if nothing goes wrong
