1998 Ford Cougar 2.5 V6 Problem

Hi all I recently purchased this car and have since noticed that some sort of clear fluid is leaking from the bottom of the wheel arch (under the wing to the back of the wheel) on the front drivers side. I have smelled the fluid and it doesn't seem to have any smell to it, and it looks like water. It also only leaks after the car is started and the car starts to move, and doesn't leak when sat still with the engine turned off at all. Im rather confused as all the fluid levels are still at the same level as when i bought the car. Any Idea's guys?

Just wondering as looking to sell the car on (insurance company want me to sell a lung or something to pay for it lol )

You're right to sell it on, this leak's gonna cost the next owner £££.

But maybe not, as it's been warm today and you've had the air-conditioning on.

And the water condensed gets deposited on the ground in exactly the area that you have described...

The car hasn't been taken off the drive since purchase as its not taxed yet so haven't had the air-con on at all just moved it a couple of yards to make space for the van. The cars been moved twice around the drive and both times this leak has shown up. I did notice on someone else's forum for a focus someone mentioned the air-con too but wasn't sure if cougars were the same in that respect. Thanks for your reply

You'd do well to head over to ukcougar.org by the way although the forum will be quiet this weekend due to an annual meet. Close-knitt but welcoming bunch with great technical coverage and they regularly turn up at each others' houses to help each other out.

There's only power steering fluid down that way. The only coolant that is plumbed behind the engine goes through the firewall to the heater matrix and you'd see you were loosing coolant.

As above, if your A/C works then it does dump the excess water just behind the front wheels but near the centerline of the car.

Thanks for the reply, I think im steering more towards the A/C as all the fluids are at max still. Think i might just try to sell the thing for a bargain and get something with a little less headache lol
