What's the most you've saved shopping around for insurance?

£500 very recently.
Used a website loosely related to meerkats, came up £1400. Used another comparison site which used to have an opera singing man with a twirly moustache, and it came up £990.
Phoned my current insurer and asked if they could match it (Admiral group) and they said they could. Great, thanks very much.
Five minutes later the phone rang. "Just calling to let you know that I've put your details into our system separately and we can actually lower that price by another £90 if you wanted?"
Erm, yes please! Thanks for your efforts and calling me back, much appreciated!
This was at either end of phoning specialist insurers who either wouldn't insure me or came up with a higher price.

It's a new policy, not a renewal for my new toy so not technically a saving but not too bad for a dozen phone calls.

Ive got from an 11grand quote to paying 700 in an hour but that doesn't really count (subaru)
Had similar but with smaller numbers when insuring an imported mx5 as my first car
I did get 150quid knocked off an auto renewal on my 172 by phoning up and laughing at them.
ive stuck with the same broker for the last few years, they've proven to be competitive price wise and most importantly bent over backwards to look after me during a claim

This year, for the first time ever, the renewal quotes for both my bikes and my car have all come in cheaper than any price comparison website can give me. The world has turned upside down.
Prior to that I have saved about £300 by switching from meerkats to opera singers, and then when actually buying the policy it came down by another £150. Sweet!

£450 when I put nitrous in my celica and my insurer at the time wouldn't touch it so moved to Flux.
Nowadays I don't ring around as much, I've been paying £250 a year for the past 5 years for biz class use for the 2 of us on an Alfa V6 and now Saab 95 Aero. Doubt I'll get much lower.

But your sister? Not hating or anything but that's pure stupid, I know not everyone is internet savvy, but did she even shop around AT ALL?
