I must be getting old (and grumpy), I just read this weeks
Issue and have come to the conclusion my money
Is better spent elsewhere.
Yet another BMW on test, a Citroen Picasso being run by them that cost £27,000!
I can't do it anymore.
I've met Steve Cropley a few time and had a good old chin wag, I even suggested to him on an email recently
About things that Intrested me, such as more secondhand bargains (but I guess that is not their main brief)
And I have bumped in to Steve Sutcliffe (he lives in my manor) but he's still not allowed me to tag along
On a super car shoot/test!
Anyway it's time for me to move on.

d/ Miami Vice type suits?
etc etc
Before things like computers, iPhones etc etc - disposable income went on your car.
Times are changing a lot.
In my generation - every kid wanted a Countach, or some other aspirational two seater sports car.
Now it is some bloody mundane, french shopping trolley with a totally daft sound system, stupid geometry, hacksawed springs and b&Q clamps, kitchen fluorescent lights down the sideskirts and a driver full of acne and baseball cap on sideways with the price tag on. Because it is the "Scene init. Big shout going out down the Slough trading estate."
The car magazines will have to change to their demographic.
At some point you will have had to change to Radio 2.

In my yoof, I used to spend tens of pounds each week/month buying car mags: Autocar, Motor, AutoExpress, CarWeek, Car, Performance Car, Top Gear and onto Evo and Octane of late. Hell even in the bad old days I used to buy Max Power!
But the big change in car magazines has been the rise of the Editors. Some mags are more about the people who write about the cars than the cars themselves. When self aggrandisement becomes more important than the subject - the cars - then it's time to move on.
For most mags I only buy the odd issue that I feel might interest me.

Can't say I'm enjoying Joe Saward. There are often excellent special pieces, but it does seem to be becoming a bit thin of late overall. Without dropping to a terribly low level - it used to be a 4-5 s

In this day and age with the internet now accessable 24/7 pretty much where ever you are on the plan, a magazines old remit, which was to provide it's reader with "information" is really rather redundant. Hence, you now get "Lifestyle" or "Aspirational" writing, designed to tell you how something feels etc.
Some magazines / writers are obviously better at this than others!
