Okay, I've a budget of £13500 - £14000 to spend.

I'm looking for a Roadsport probably but I'm concerned about K-Series reliability (cooling, head gasket issues).

I used to have a Sprint years ago but that won't work for me now that I'm planning Le Mans in it next year - any ideas or advice?

Cheers

Chris

You might get into an early Sigma Academy car (I sold mine for close to this at the end of last season) but I'd prefer an imperial chassis K engined car to be honest, you ought to pick up a nice one for the money - buy on condition rather than age of course.

Nothing to worry about a K series in a 7 as cooling is much less of an issue. Had mine for several years now with extensive mods and has proved faultless - and a few years earlier I had an S2 Elise with HGF so it was it was a brave choice! K series much lighter than others so handling better place to start from - went on the scales at Millwod BBQ earlier today 557kg for my Roadsport with a spare wheel against 579kg for a Duratec R400 "superlight"...

...hang on a minute in your other post you were just about to buy a 1600 k series Roadsport...was this the one with "chronic overheating problems"?

You're quite right I was about to buy a Roadsport 1600 K-series, a lovely car it was too!

The failure of that deal had nothing to do with cooling or the cars condition.

I've just been doing some reading over the weekend and I'm reading lots about HGF with that series - I'm starting to understand that the problem is linked to the engines more mundane employment rather than in Caterhams.

Wouldn't be overly worried about HGF I have had K series for 15 Years with no issues and even if a gasket did go you just get fit one of the more robust replacement ones and no issue regarding cooling (other than the passenger)

I just bought a Roadsport pushing close to 160bhp for under 14k. Absolutely love the car! I think you could find a low mileage, well looked after K series example for that price.

Mine could be up for sale for the right price.
2005 Roadsport 1.6 - 5 speed gearbox . Ex academy car. Resprayed in 1960's BRG . Complete with Caterham f1 7 yellow and white vinyl stripes.. Leather seats, brake bias lever, snap off momo steering wheel, 4 point harnes, wide track, adjustable suspension 9,800 miles.
Love the car but now want something quicker with a LSD ;-)

I think I might have found a nice 1800 Roadsport but I'm struggling to get rid of my Cayman.
