Anyone know what this was doing around 3-4pm around Much Hoole near Preston.

Was really low, 300ft ish, circled and headed off SE.

I'm guessing it was the BBMF Dak; it had the D-Day stripes.

Looking on the BBMF website, it looks like it was at Duxford and RIAT.

Was quite a sight.

May not have been. There are a number of DC-3/C-47/Dakotas flying in the UK at the moment decked out in D-Day colours (for obvious reasons).

For the just-gone 70th anniversary perhaps?

Of course.

Bit of a strange manoeuvre though.

One flew over my house rather low yesterday afternoon!
Mowing the lawn has never been more exciting.

It sure gave all the folk in the Newport Showground over the road a nice pass before leaving.

The RAFBBMF Dakota did a flypast at the old Liverpool (Speke) airport site today around that time for the Aviation Fair there

I was on stannage edge and saw it down below us flying along hope valley, some folks on Derwent may have got a treat depending on its route.

I was lucky enough to get a tour of the BoB Hanger a couple of years ago, with Smithy (OC, BBMF); when asked the question "do you ever get complaints about flying too low?", he replied, "no, never; but the jet jockies get loads".
