I'm in the fortunate position to have the use of a Caterham for a long weekend, Friday afternoon - Monday morning, with 300 miles before additional mileage charges apply. I'm collecting from Caterham in Crawley & looking to the PH collective for inspiration. If you were in my position, where would you go with your 300 (plus a few if needs be) miles?

Crawley? That's about 30-40 miles from Brands hatch isn't it?

Thought had crossed my mind. I will be checking the paperwork carefully but fully expect track days to be on the list of 'Thou shalt not', right next to the Nordschleife.

Stay off the motorways and just go where the roads take you. If you've not driven one before, wherever you go will be fun.

North Scotland. Tempting however the additional mileage fees would be unpleasant.

South,then west.

A272 from the A23 is windy, especially west of Billingshurst to Petworth.

You could go south from there to Goodwood.

I'm based in the SE and my favourite destination with the caterham is snowdonia via Brecon Beacons.

Hang the mileage, just enjoy.

First time driving a caterham?

Where will you be going

Probably to a bank to arrange a loan

Easiest job in the world is selling caterhams

In a Caterham I'd agree with that. 300 miles is a long way.

I hired one for the weekend from a PHer who used to hire them in York - i used up my weekends mileage on the first day driving round the dales. smile

Went York - Thirsk - North Allerton - Richmond - along the B6270 and back along Long Shaw to take in the village that All creatures was filmed in - Marsham - York.

Tis very addictive driving a Caterham along the country lanes.

Yes.
Borrow a trailer, tow it up, spend 300 miles hammering round the best roads in the country, trailer it home. Job jobbed and your milage limit intact.

Either that, or fly up to Edinburgh and hire one in Scotland.

I don't know all those roads but used to take mine that way from Winchester regularly thumbup Get up very early, do a couple of laps, spend the morning giggling in the shade, nap after lunch and do it again in the evening. Rinse and repeat on Sunday.

Then see the bank manager on Monday morning. biggrin

Definitely this. I was lucky enough to win one for the weekend last year. Picked up from Caterham Midlands and didn't leave Leicestershire all weekend. Took a different passenger everyday and just drove and made a decision at each junction. Found some good roads I had never driven before and some good pubs for lunch every day. Be warned you will want to buy one by the end of the weekend. Personal circumstances mean I have to wait until next year to get one but I have another weekend hire booked for the end of this month. Can't wait.
