Evening All,

What spec of battery do I need for a power hungry 993 C4 Varioram please? Was considering a Bosch S5 096 Silver 008 but got very confused by the numbering??!! Is a S5 unnecessarily powerful?? Have no idea what 008 refers to either...

All at sea so appreciate any help.

Many thanks

Just bought a Bosch at eurocarparts. S4 refers to 4 year warranty, s5 is 5 year warranty etc. thought mine was 007 but I'll check tomo. Was £74. 993c4

Dunno about codes but mine is an S5. The S4 I had gave up the ghost after 18 months and I couldn't find the warranty to get a replacement. The S5 does seem very powerful and its not much extra £££

Any 096, which is a fairly common battery for a variety of cars, is correct for the car.

Costco (S5 only stocked I think) or ECP (choice of S3, S4 & S5) usually have the best prices for Bosch.

I would recommend a Halfords Calcium. IIRC it's the HCB 096. The calcium technology seems to be much more than a marketing gimmick.

Why Halfords?
1) they are close
2) they offer and honour a 'no quibble' replacement warranty
3) they don't make batteries

I fitted one in summer 2008, and it's still going strong.

Apparently Bosch and Banner supply the OE Porsche batteries.

That's right. As you go up the model range they all cost a few quid more than the last one but as well as the warranty length going up, so do the cranking amps, so you get a more powerful battery with longer warranty.

I paid about £95 for an S5 for my GT3. ECP always have deals on.

Really? Everyone always seems to say that the frankly rubbish Porsche branded batteries are made by Moll.

I was told Porsche use several suppliers, as with tyres, to avoid being beholden to one source.
