Ok Guys, a bit of advice needed.
There are 2 buttons under the dash near the ashtray, one red(square)one black (round).
What do they do?!!!
Cheers

The small round black one - like the door button? - is to lock the doors when you are driving. Like a central locking button inside the car.

The other I have no idea confused

No it hasn't. But I do have a red square one on the other side of the dash underside which is for the hazards as the original microswitch is no longer available for fitting in the end of the indicator lever. Mine's a '96 too.

Mines a 96 also and it only has the one button under the ashtray which is the central locking one (has a little green light in the middle of it).
I wonder if it is a mod? Mine has another button which is a mod, if switched on it bypasses the ecu and powers up both radiator fans, handy if your stuck in traffic on a hot day and dont like sitting there wondering if they will cut in or not as the temp gauge gets closer and ever closer to 100c. Aaaaaagghhhhh!!!!!, ,yikes

I bought a cheap as chips long micro switch from Maplins and trimmed down some of the plastic and it fits down inside the indicator lever with ease. Worked a treat! I also extended teh wires to make it easier to fix next time.

I will dig out some pictures as I am sure to have taken them!
