Man, seem to be having a lot of problems with my car lately. Well in fact Ive had this one a while but its getting worse and doing my head in.

1st gear changes down to 2nd don't feel right. In fact the problem is intermittent. When moving the gear stick down to neutral then into 2nd gear, its the moving the gear into the neutral phase that isn't right. You move the gear knob down and there is no resistance in the change. The gear doesn't pop out on its own when driving along, but it feels slack or a better word slips into the neutral position. It goes like this, first 1 cm or so, normal resistance, normal resistance, normal resistance, then BOOM move a bit more and no resistance what-so-ever, once you enter 2nd gear the resistance comes back.

Any suggestions as to what could be causing this? It only happens in 1st gear going to 2nd.

Thanks

You need to start by getting under the car/bonnet & checking all bushes/joints in the gearchange linkages for free play/wear.

You need to start by telling us make, model, year etc.
Some vehicles have specific common problems but without knowing what yours is its impossible to give an answer.

get the dealer to look up all the new bushes and parts in the gear linkage and replace them , worn engine mounts can also effect the gear change

Sounds more like a gun than a car.

^^^ I think I used to carry one in the Army or was that the SLR - but it was a long time ago.

Honda Civic Type R. Web search shows issues with sloppy gearchange & an aluminium bushing kit to replace the rubber ones. Whether it works I have no idea.

Lots on 3rd gear issues as well.
