Diablo EMCs (Article in Road & Track)
Discussion
As a new owner I suspect I am the only owner who wasn't aware of this.....is it true or hype? Are there workarounds (if ever I become so unlucky)

There are two (I think) ECUs that sit somewhere behind the seats in metal boxes.
I had a problem with one once that led to reduced power, sometimes.
Getting another one, from Eurospares, was a silly price - though not $5000 from memory.
Maybe half that, but it was awhile ago.
Anyway, I showed the circuit board to a friend who ran an electronics shop.
He said that cost it was a $30 circuit board.
What had happened was a tiny bit of the lacquer protecting the circuit had flaked away and a bit if moisture had got at a joint. He popped a bit of solder on, relacquered it and charged me nothing.

There are 2 LIE computers in the Diablo, one for each bank of the car. It's certainly a well know fact in the US, that the computers can fail, depending on what exactly failed, it can be big bucks for a replacement. Some companies can repair them, again depends on what exactly has happened.
Im sure a few of us owners here, also know the computers can go. One of the first things, that some of us that work on our own Diablos do if a problem comes up is, to switch the 2 computers over, as they are identical, this can eliminate weather a certain problem is computer related or something else.

I had one of these fail on my car about 18 months ago. The resulting pumping one of the very hot Cats full of fuel destroyed it - but I count myself lucky it was just the cat that burnt out.
Was quoted £4k to replace the ECU. Shopped around and got that down to £3k. Had some very interesting conversations with a couple of people regards non EU items but in the end Mike at Carrera Sport sorted the problem for a fraction of the cost .... There is a good reason he is the "Go To" guy for Diablos !!
The CAT ? - Did not bother replacing the burnt out item, just did away with them both

Yeah Mike can repair the LIE computers, definitely the man to send them too if one goes down. As for the cats, best thing to do is hollow them out [a lot already like that] or put by pass pipes on.
