996 GT3 Cargraphic exhaust - straight pipe or not?
Discussion
Hi Guys & Gals,
I've a full Cargraphic exhaust system on my mk2 at the moment (manifolds and all), but have still got side silencers on.
The car sounds fantastic when pushing on above 5000rpm, but is still a bit muted lower down the range.
Looking into this has given me 2 options;
Replace the current Sports silencers for super sport silencers from Cargraphic.....or do away with the silencers and go for a straight pipe.
Has anyone here done away with the silencers on their car? I would like a bit more noise, but don't want it to drone! Is anyone familiar with the super sport silencers? Will I notice much different over the standard option from Cargraphic?
All opinions welcome. Thanks.

I took my silencers off my 996 3.4 Carrera that I had & the sound was almost too much for many (people stopped tailgating me on the Motorway it was that loud). You can get muffler bypass pipes easily though you will lose some low down torque as well. Mrs C said on a bad day she could hear me a good 5 minutes from home where we live & I did cringe (only very slightly!) when I started it up early on a Sunday to get it out of the man cave when I went out for a breakfast run with friends.

Yep, my mate bought this car and it was TOO loud (no offence Chris, Craig did like it to be honest). It has some rear boxes on now, albeit very small ones and sounds more nine-eleveny again.
Don't do straight pipes OP. You actually lose the flat six sound and just end up with noise. I know what you mean though it's hard to get a nice loud burble at tickover with the GT3. Maybe that's just the Mezger.

Burble at tickover ? Whilst it may not have had quite the drama of an F car, the Manthey exhaust along with the sucking noise of Cup air filter (which someone once described to me as being akin to the suck available from a $10 hooker) makes for a very convincing combination over stock.

But you're right, the more silencing you remove from Mezger, the more chav like they sound. Or as you put it "just a noise".
My 986 Boxster with a Fabspeed Race Exhaust fitted, 200cel cats tho..

Hi Henry,
Yep yours sounded great. I have the cup filter on mine, in it's original position though unlike the cup/Manthey cars. Still sounds good mind. Sounds like it could suck small children in.
I altered my stainless boxes a few weeks ago and it's given mine a much deeper sound at lower revs which will do for now. I think the point I was making is that a GT3, with all it's mechanical noises in the background, will never sound like a 996 C4S with PSE.
As soon as you're on the move though all is forgiven eh.

Hi Guys,
Thanks for all the comments.
Don't get me wrong...LOVE the sound of the car...but it's just the way it sounds much louder once past a certain point in the rev range is like a flapper opening. Just wondering if that is an inherent character of all silencers or just the particular part that I've got installed. Will have to double check what part I've got.
The idea of a straight pipe wasn't really my preference because I was worried about the droning, and it just being too much 'noise', but wanted to hear other people's experiences with them as well, so thanks for the words of advice.
