Brought about to bridge an apparent gap between the last of the old 470bhp DB9 and the 510bhp DBS.
18 months later it was dropped. AM wanted a Vantage, Virage and Vanquish range, but that plan proved unpopular without a DB "David Brown" present.
So, they upped the power to 510bhp, gave it a DBS boot lid and renamed it the new DB9. I think they made slight changes to the suspension between Virage and new DB9 - I'm sure someone here can correct me though.
490bhp from the Virage V12 is plenty for some. Current prices make it an attractive alternative to a new shape DB9 too
V12V is harder, rawer car. IMO, it's more engaging with it's lovely manual gearbox.
Auto-only Virage is more a cruiser. Newer look is appealing to some, too.

Thank you. On looks I think the Virage is stunning. However would love a manual sports car again. 18 months later it was dropped. AM wanted a Vantage, Virage and Vanquish range, but that plan proved unpopular without a DB "David Brown" present.

The Virage also has CCM brakes, which are rather good at stopping the thing. Has switchable and adaptive suspension which gives great flexibility for me. Can hustle around Welsh country roads
the limiting factor was the driver (me again). Steering is sharp enough for me and compares well to a 996 C4S in my opinion, although is a bigger heavier car obviously.
The V12 is the earlier iteration, but 490bhp is plenty for me.
Brilliant at eating long distances at good speed. I always want the journey to continue as it's such an event.
Sounds great, mellow at idle and, with Fuse 15 out, it snaps and crackles as well.
Practicality, it has a reasonable boot and I consider it a 1 + 2 (kids) car.
Only 657 coupes made (or something like that).
And looks quite nice as well...though not as good looking as me...
As always, the only advice I could give is have a drive of a few cars and see which one suits you.
I love mine.

Thanks for the advise and will be looking at an older DBS as well. My kids would love it on the school run!

The Virage is a lovely GT offering a good step up (dynamically and spec wise) over a DB9 of the same age, and they offer great value used. Basically Aston's marketing team were a bit over ambitious, they tried to squeeze a new model between the 470bhp DB9 and 510bhp DBS, but the higher priced Virage failed to find enough new buyers to compensate for falling sales of the cheaper (but now long in the tooth) DB9 meanwhile the flagship DBS had much more status. When the Virage was re-vamped into the new 13MY DB9, the price also dropped affecting Virage residuals, hence one reason for their relatively good value used, although newer ones are within 10k of an older 13MY 9, which is worth the extra IMO.
But going back to your original point, the V12V is a manual sports/driver's car (think of it as Aston's GT3) and the Virage is an auto sports GT, so dynamically it depends what you are looking for... hope this helps
