Vehicle Gross Weight...

SO, I've been reading the manual and it says my car (S4 B8) can carry 500kg...

...anyway with my tubby ass, 3 kids and the Mrs, tent, roofbox. gear etc. it's coming pretty close so I was wondering...


Is running at gross weight for a length of time OK for the car? I mean is this a *well within tolerance* figure or is the car
going to look permanently like this after we return home...







(We can take 2 cars but rather stick to one.)

Stated MGW will be well within engineering tolerances for normal use. It'll be fine.

ETA: Especially if the weight is situated between the axles; that's got to be vastly better than having a 50kg driver and 450kg of lead in the boot.

Yup, GAWRs are what you should be more concerned with

Adjust your tyre pressures and it'll be fine. Fuel consumption will go up for the jourey and if you do it for a loooong period you'll find you need to replace brake components more often.

Think taxis; thay often cary many passengers and luggage or car-derived vans.

Many trucks spend a large portion of their lives running at or near GVW.
