My company C2W scheme allows a bike plus 'safety accessories' to the value of £1000. What do other companies offer?

They all do, don't they?

You can also buy parts and accessories, you know like fancy wheels, groupos and that wink

I only ask as I'm sure I remember folk on here having £1500 or more to spend.

I could, of course, be wrong.

£1k limit unless your employer has a credit licence. Some schemes allow top-ups though (but you only get the tax benefit on £1k)

Mine is £3k, and I get the tax benefit on the full amount. We have consumer credit licences running into the millions coming out of our ears though.

A colleague of mine a couple of years ago (when the limit was £2k) did ask whether they could extend it to £6k for him. He was told by the HR department that they weren't convinced he'd use a £6k carbon time trial bike primarily to cycle to and from work! hehe

Much also depends on the retailer.

Must be something to do with the way they get paid, but I know people (in the good old days when it was worth doing), getting a voucher for the full £1,000 and then adding their own funds to it to top it up.

However, when I tried it, Evans wouldn't play ball.

Interestingly enough, a mate of mine at work has just been in touch with our HR dept and they told him not to bother as it's not worth it anymore.

Evans were perfectly happy to do top-ups a couple of months ago when I bought my latest bike.

The savings are still significant especially if you are on a scheme that allows you to buy bikes that are on sale. It's a bit more complicated to administer but it's a far cry to say it's not worth it.

Definitely still worth it for a 40% tax payer in my experience.

Evans do allow you to top up

http://www.evanscycles.com/ride-to-work/faqs

What if my certificate doesn’t equal the exact cost of the equipment?
If your certificate value is more than the cost of the equipment, it is not possible to get a refund but you can include more accessories. If your certificate value is less than the cost of the equipment you can add your own money to it.

My scheme is 1k through Evans which I'm a bit annoyed about as I quite fancied a Planet X cross bike.

Most schemes use a loophole where the ownership of the bike moves from your employer to the scheme operator until the final value fee is no longer chargeable. All ties between you and your employer are finished after the first 12 months so you are free to change job, buy another C2W bike or anything else you like without penalty.

Cheers for the info.

How long does it normally take from getting quote to getting bike?

You sign up through your employer. They'll give you a voucher. You take the voucher to the shop.

That depends more on your employer's HR department than anything else, I think.

Thanks for the info.

All the FAQ's say the savings would be about 30% on RRP at 20% tax - out of curiosity how much does it increase if you pay 40% tax?
