I was checking out a mystery coolant loss, parked up under an lamp post just off a roundabout on a disused spur road. BiB's roll up, no blues, get out & enquire if everything is ok. I explain about the empty expansion tank (rad cap defect I think), they ask if I'm ok to get home !!!

Further natter, evening Sir, and off they trot. Much appreciated says I.

No producers, no sarky comments, just honest concern. MY estimation of TC's has gone up as a result of this experience. Cheers lads.

(Rad cap seems to be ok now I cleaned some sediment away from the seal)

hmmmmmmm,not by my taste of an encounter tjis week,took a wrong turn in London.So pulled over to get te A to Z out.Before i get to the index there's a car light on pulling up behind.Out comes the PC.

He wasn't polite,it sounded polite when written, but the tone was not.It was me being in an area which was too close to a MOD area i was being checked, vetted as a terrorist for stopping to read a map

for every good tale, there seems to be a bad one. Which was why I posted the good one. Not all cops are bad, and "your" cop didn't know if you were planning anything naughty, did he? I was parked somewhere harmless, and no threat. Just goes to show that context matters.

Granted, would have been better to have been askled politely, but if it had been me, I'd have had it in the back of my mind you could have been a suicide bomber, and may have been more nervous, and less polite, thanusual.

I have a similar good one - an almost identical police response from the two officers who came across me taking the headlight off my bike under a streetlamp on a roundabout in the middle of nowhere. Same offer of assistance and transport home. Didn't need it - I soon found the wire that had fallen off and got going again - but the offer was appreciated.

Glad to hear of it...

Thing is, that happens 1000s of times per day, but people rarely tell others about it. Stories only fly about when the Bib are sarcastic etc..

nearly all my dealings with the police have been good ones. The only bad ones were while with a group of lads about 18 years ago, being a bit roudy in a town centre, and asked if we would all like a '1 way trip' by a police woman. Another while at work while trying to move a completely p****d student who gone to sleep on work property. 2 BIBs came along, and the policewoman agravated him enough for him to push her in anger (hmm, policewoman again!). The got the van and student threw up all his beer and kebab meat all over her male colleague who was actually quite a nice chap. - good result - ???

The last one was with humberside Safety camera partnership, who were the most chav/towny/scuttery mob I've ever met, completely with pig (pardon the pun) ignorant BIB.

So SCP's and police females are my bad experiences.

I'm not saying that my comments are in any way to be interpreted as a generalisation, just that my own personal experiences have caused me to form these views.
